Rev. Dr. Charles Aaron Jr. to Join Perkins Intern Staff

DALLAS (SMU)Rev. Dr. Charles L. Aaron Jr. (M.Div. ’85), an elder in full connection in the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, will begin work as Associate Director of the Intern Program at Perkins School of Theology on June 1. He currently is Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Terrell, where he has served since 2013.

Rev. Aaron’s commitments to education, pastoral leadership and the value of theological field education will serve him well in this new role.

In addition to receiving a Master of Divinity degree at Perkins in 1985, Rev. Aaron also earned a Ph.D. in Old Testament from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia in 1996. He has served full-time appointments in a variety of churches while simultaneously finding time to teach and write. He has taught courses and workshops in preaching at several seminaries, including Perkins, and has published numerous journal articles in the areas of Old Testament and homiletics. Rev. Aaron’s writing credits include Preaching Hosea, Amos and Micah (2005), The Bible’s Foundation: An Introduction to the Pentateuch (2013), and Parental Guidance Advised: Adult Preaching from the Old Testament (co-edited with Alyce McKenzie, 2013).

“Chuck’s dedication to church, scholarship and teaching will benefit our interns as they seek to integrate the knowledge and theological reflection disciplines learned in the classroom with the practical demands of providing leadership within a congregation or agency ministry,” said Dr. Thomas Spann, Director of the Intern Program at Perkins.
